Adam O’Brien, Anthony Milford, Newcastle Knights vs Brisbane Broncos, Round 22

Corey Parker shot down Cavaliers coach Adam O’Brien’s suggestion that the Cavaliers improved their position after losing 28-10 to the Broncos.

O’Brien said his side had improved in their “resilience” but lacked the “polish” to kill their chances, but Parker was having none of it.

“I don’t want to sound like I’m pandering to the Cavaliers, but I mean, the words coming out of that press conference from Adam O’Brien to me and Jayden Briley were terrible,” Parker said.

“They were terrible. They completed 81 percent for the game. They had 36 completions to the Broncos’ 26 and the Broncos weren’t good.

“They had 77 tackles in 20 of 50. 32 and scored two tries.

“They had everything they needed. They had more balls, more possession and simply couldn’t do it.

“They don’t seem to score.”

“So where are the points?” asked Yvonne Sampson.

“It’s a really good question because it’s so pedestrian,” Parker said.

“They’re definitely feeling confident, but there was a bit of resistance to hear and there were improvements that I didn’t see.

“Maybe I’m being too harsh, but from what I saw tonight, the Broncos were up 18-0 at halftime and they weren’t good.

“The Broncos have made a lot of progress, but for the Newcastle Knights they are all sorts.”

Cooper Cronk agreed with Parker, urging the Cavaliers to make a strong call for Anthony Milford to start planning for next year without him.

Cronk said: “Adam O’Brien said they need more polish on the try line and he’s right, but there’s actually a lot of difference.

“When a winger puts the ball into the corner, there is a lot of work that needs to be done on the inside to be perfect.

“Halfs go to the line and almost hit the ground. Travelers need to be in the right place at the right time.

“You can look at these good sets of balls and see that players are out of contention and not in the right position.

“The Polish thing is that Milford is one of their best players. When he gets it right, the ball is very skillful to play, but it is inconsistent for a long time.

“The question mark is more about Poland and preparing for the summer and next year, is it the right one considering that Milford is going to the Dolphins?

I know he’s one of their players so it’s a bit crazy to think this, but maybe some of the guys who will be going to Phoenix Crosland or some part of the summer should fast track their upgrades. Be right for next year. ”

Parker also hammered the Cavaliers’ formidable defense on a Broncos side that was nowhere near their best.

“That’s on the offensive side of things, but their edge on defense is defense,” Parker said.

“Dane Gagai wasn’t sure if he was Arthur or Martha tonight. It was coming. He would stay back.

“Bradman Best at the other end was doing the same thing and the Broncos didn’t throw too much at them and managed to score some points.

There is a big threat in Newcastle.
