Ashley Klein dropped, referee, Wests Tigers robbed vs North Queensland Cowboys, penalty, bunker

Magistrate Ashley Klein has been dismissed this weekend as a man on standby for the Tigers’ raid on North Queensland.

The NRL admitted on Monday it was wrong to penalize the Cowboys after the Tigers’ Asu Kepaoa was ruled to have illegally tackled Kyle Feldt.

However, NRL head of football Graham Annesley stood by the decision to allow the captain’s challenge which led to the penalty.

Klein sat out the weekend, missing all umpire and jury duties.

“He has been our 1st referee for the past few months. He has directed all three departures, has been working in the bunker for many years now, working at a very high level. “We don’t agree with the decision he made,” Annesley said.

“There is no more accountable job than serving in the NRL. We have a history of putting our hands up when things go wrong. If we feel there is a reason for officials to be held accountable for their decisions, then those decisions will be made.

“Let him be told that we do not agree with the decision and be given reasons why we do not agree with this decision.” Apparently, the appointments are the most obvious way for officials to be appointed or removed.

“The most important thing will be taken from a learning point of view to try and confirm what happened (Sunday), and all the officials and those things will be discussed as a team with referee boss Jared Maxwell. You see these events right and wrong so we find some common ground between them.

“People always call for consistency. They look at these things, they break them down and they all try to agree on the results so they can all implement that consistently.
