Brad Arthur future, Parramatta Eels coach, approaching rival clubs, Anthony Griffin future, St George Illawarra coach sacked, Bulldogs, Phil Gould

Eels coach Brad Arthur is under contract until the end of the 2024 season but has reportedly offered his services to a rival NRL club.

As for nine Danny Wedler, Arthur’s management has made an approach but the Parramatta boss says he is “in the dark” about any negotiations.

The 48-year-old then said he was keen to stay with the Eels until the end of his contract in the hope of winning the Premier League and ending their 36-year drought.

“I went to Brad for a comment about that. He said he was in the dark about any such moves and it was his intention to honor his contract with Parramatta until the end of 2024 and try to win a competition with them,” Widler said.

“So I guess it’s going to be a matter of watching this space and seeing how Isles goes.”

Reports suggest the Bulldogs and Dragons could be clubs offered by Arthur’s management.

Els captain Clint Gutterson said Arthur would brief the players on Tuesday about the reports.

“My colleague sent me (the report) last night. I was in bed, we’re camping right now,” Guterson said. Big sports breakfast.

“I will talk to him this morning. You don’t know where it’s coming from and you never hear what’s going on around you, but I’m sure when we have a team meeting today, I’m sure he’ll say something and we’ll go fast.

“You have to roll with it. It’s always going to be there, the media stuff about Parramatta and we’re pretty used to it now.

“…you don’t know what’s true and what’s not, so try and get away from it.”

Dragons head coach Anthony Griffin is under contract until the end of the 2023 season when he was offered a contract extension in February this year.

Since taking over the role at the end of 2022, Griffin has won 16 games and lost 25 games, and the situation is under the microscope for the remaining seven games of the year.

Griffin’s future is set to be discussed at Tuesday’s Board of Supervisors meeting.

Meanwhile, the Bulldogs are yet to make a decision on a long-term head coach, with rugby league boss Phil Gould pulling the strings behind the scenes.

Panthers assistant Cameron Ciraldo is said to be the favorite to take over if he doesn’t sign a contract extension to stay at the bottom of the mountain.

The Tigers, who sacked Michael Maguire this year, have confirmed their future with Tim Sheens, Benjy Marshall and Robbie Farah taking over, and the Warriors have confirmed Andrew Webster as head coach.
