Brisbane Broncos, Kevin Walters spray, players whinged, upset, Gorden Tallis, James Graham, Ben Dobbin, Triple M

Broncos legend Gordon Tallis has hit out at Brisbane players who complained after enduring a spray from coach Kevin Walters after their thrashing on Thursday night.

The Broncos were embarrassed at home by the Eels, prompting Walters to deliver his all-time splash after a 53-6 loss.

Walters blamed the players’ poor attitude and poor defense for the “horrific” defeat, which saw them drop just one round out of eight.

Rugby league reporter Ben Dobbin said several Broncos players were “upset” with the way Walters spoke to the team after the defeat.

“I don’t understand why the players are angry,” Dobbin said on Triple M.

“Kevvy is passionate, he thought they should have been better after the game. Who is going to be offended by the way they said it?

Tallis insisted that Walters had the right to disperse his men and said the rowdy players “couldn’t do it in my day”.

“What about Craig Bellamy in the box every minute? What do you want to say in a stressful situation? Sir Alex Ferguson got his boot kicked by David Beckham’s head.” Tallis said.

Bulldogs great James Graham echoed Dobbin’s sentiment when he revealed Walters had called his players “soft”.

“You have to face the music. You have to face the truth and Kevvy is within his rights to give the team a splash,” said Graham.

“At least two weeks have gone by and they’ve embarrassed the team. They embarrassed the city and you know, they have to play finals

“That (calling them soft) is designed to get a reaction, and the reaction shouldn’t be me going and yelling about it. The answer should be I’ll be up next week.

Tallis has asked Walters to drop the players who complained for the Broncos’ must-win match against the Dragons next week.

“Those two are angry and just draw a line through them,” Tallis said.

“If I know and I’m in that organization, I don’t want to play with that guy.

“If I’m called soft, my response is to prove him wrong. And if you want me to stand up to Jared Ware-Hargreaves while I’m freaking out and running around, that takes guts.

“So if someone goes, you’re soft, how does he stand up to (Roosters enforcer) Jared Ware-Hargreaves?”

Graham agreed and said that was exactly the point of Walters Sledge.

“That’s what Gordon was designed to do,” he said.

“If somebody picks on you and asks about your strength and calls you soft, you know what I do, I go: ‘You know what? I’m going to prove you wrong. Do you want to call me a soft coach? Look at this.'”
