BRISBANE legend Gordon Tallis has questioned Tyson Gamble after the Broncos player coach made controversial comments about Kevin Walters.

Gamble says halfback Adam Reynolds is the “go-to” man at the club and is running the show in Brisbane this season.

That prompted Reynolds to call Gamble “out of line,” and the quarterback confirmed he spoke to Walters on Thursday, who “apologized.”

Reynolds defended the coach and emphasized that everything he brings to the team comes through Walter.

Tallis questioned Gamble’s comments, saying it was the halfback’s job to coach the team on the field.

“There’s no doubt about what Adam Reynolds has said, that everything Kevvy has said will strengthen him,” Tallis said.

“I’ve played with Joey (Andrew Jones), I’ve played with Alf (Langer), I’ve played with Kevvy, they’re always coaching you because Wayne (Bennett) was never there, Wayne wasn’t in earshot, they’re the ones always telling you what to do, so these comments ( From Gamble) I don’t know where they come from.

The situation has piled more pressure on Walter, who is struggling to secure a new contract following Brisbane’s stunning collapse last month.

But Matty Jones has defended how Walters uses Reynolds and compared the situation in Brisbane to the top-flight Cowboys.

“If I’m a coach, I want my players to go to my halfback for things because the coach will talk to the halfback and the halfback will put it on the field,” Jones said.

“That’s why Kevin Walters brought Adam Reynolds to the club. Now Tyson didn’t really say it. But that’s okay with Kevin Walters.

“The best coaches I’ve ever coached empowered the seven. I interviewed Todd Payne a month ago and I said to quarterback Todd Payne how much energy do you give him and he said I give him all the energy, that’s it.

“You’re going to have Reynolds there for leadership and if a coach doesn’t have Reynolds on the team, he’s going to chase the team. That’s what leads to coaching, so you want to hear from your leaders.”

The Broncos have been in the top eight since the 9th round and are in fourth place as of the 19th round.

But they have lost four of five since then and performances against the Hurricanes and Eels in the last twelve weeks have seen the Raiders secure their place in the top eight.

To play in the finals, Brisbane must beat the Dragons on Saturday and Canberra will have to hope they lose at bottom of the West Tigers on Sunday.

The Broncos can still sneak in if the Raiders beat them, but they’ll have to beat the Dragons to close the 43-point advantage over the Green Machine.

The situation has seen Brisbane officials put Walters’ contract extension talks on ice and Gamble’s comments will pile more pressure on the embattled coach.
