The foxes send Fofana back to the children

Leicester defender Wesley Fofana is training with the Under-23s because he has been distracted by interest from Chelsea, manager Brendan Rodgers has said.

Chelsea had a third bid of 60-70 million pounds ($102 million) rejected earlier this week for the 21-year-old French centre-back – with another bid pending.

Rodgers missed Fofana’s first team training session last week.

The player was left out of the Foxes squad for Saturday’s Premier League games against Southampton and Stockport County in the League Cup.

The 2016 champions were without a win in the Premier League this season and the Fofana saga was also a distraction, so a penalty shootout victory was welcome.

Leicester’s next game is against Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Rodgers said: “He is training with the under-23s so he can get his football skills and continue his career.

“These people get paid well.

“The most you can do is show up. And if you don’t, with all due respect, then you can’t think you can go to our team.”

But, like I said, day to day, he’s a good kid. He was having a hard time handling everything, and it was hard to play while he was in that mindset.

Chelsea are expected to return with a fourth request for Fofana.

Fofana joined Leicester in 2020 from Saint-Etienne for £32m and signed a new five-year contract in March. Leicester will not sell, he insists.

Chelsea have spent £170m this summer and recently had their £45m bid for young Everton striker Anthony Gordon rejected.

Thomas Tuchel’s side – five points behind leaders Arsenal – are in talks with Barcelona to sign former Arsenal striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

The Hammers continue to have a huge expense account.

West Ham signed Italian defender Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea in a £15 million ($25 million) deal on Tuesday.

Emerson has agreed a four-year contract with the Hammers, with an option to extend for a further year.

The 28-year-old left linebacker was born in Brazil but He moved to Italy in 2014 and was finally granted citizenship.

He struggled to break into the Chelsea team in five years at Stamford Bridge and spent last season on loan at Lyon.

Emerson won 27 caps for Italy and played in the Euro 2020 final against England at Wembley.

“I’m very happy to be here and to be here. It’s a big challenge for me, it’s a big team so I’m very happy to be here and I’m ready,” Emerson told West Ham’s website.

“Personally, from the first day I arrived here in England, I’ve always seen big clubs and I’ve always watched big games and I know the history of West Ham.

“The story is huge for this club and when I knew for sure about his interest I said ‘yes let’s go, I want to go there’ and now here I am! I can’t wait to get started in a West Ham shirt. Emerson becomes West Ham manager David Moyes’ seventh signing since the end of last season.

“He is an experienced player with good pedigree, who has achieved great success both at club and international level in recent years,” said Moyes.

“He gives us strong competition in defensive positions and brings the winning mentality we want to build here at West Ham.” West Ham lost 2-0 at home to Brighton on Sunday and remain bottom of the Premier League after three successive defeats.

Ronaldo blanked Karan at an inconvenient moment | 00:32

Ten Hag still says that Ronaldo UTD has a future

Despite keeping Ronaldo on the bench for Manchester United’s impressive win over Liverpool, coach Erik ten Haag continues to play down the Portuguese gun’s transfer prospects.

It’s hard to imagine Ronaldo being able to adapt to Ten Hag’s top-time philosophy in the twilight of his career.

But at least publicly, Ten Haag insists Ronaldo has a role to play in his plans.

“I think he can. Throughout his career he has worked with many managers, in many styles and systems. He plays it all the time so why can’t he do this? It’s not about his age,” Ten Haag said after the Liverpool game.

“We have a team and we have a way of playing, a style and a game plan. They look at what is the best approach to the game. Today it was those players, Saturday could be different.

United’s hostile attitude against Liverpool in Ronaldo’s absence provided a template for the Ten Hag era.

New signing Casemiro from Real Madrid shows that spirit and Ten Hague will want to see the same from Ronaldo.

“We were talking about leadership, today we had leadership on the field, he is the same,” Ten Haag said of Casemiro.

“Ronaldo has it, so you need some and it’s a guide for young players who haven’t lifted the trophies.” Pressed on Ronaldo and Maguire’s future, Ten Haag said: “I don’t have to mention Harry Maguire and Ronaldo, they are fantastic players and will play a role in the future, in the short term (time).

“It’s always hard to leave them, but I have decisions to make.” Whether that olive branch will be enough to stop Ronaldo’s dilemma from Ten Hag United’s revolution remains to be seen.
