Marathon star disaster

In the morning session, England’s David Weir was on course for a prestigious gold medal for the home crowd until a crash occurred after 30km.

He was on his way to gold in the men’s T43/T54 marathon but hit a hole in the closing stages.

Weir was devastated by the attack, which the commentator called “very sad” and “hard to watch”.

Meanwhile, Channel 7’s Jason Richardson says the rules don’t allow someone to come in and fix the grill, except for the weir itself.

Victory still went to England’s Johnboy Smith who took gold in 1:41:15 ahead of Scotland’s Sean Frame and England’s Simon Lawson.
