Corey Waddell eye-gouge, Tino Fa’asuamaleaui, Canterbury Bulldogs vs Gold Coast Titans, Round 19

Bulldogs forward Corey Waddell could be in hot water over a suspected eye-gouge on Tino Faasumalewi after Canterbury clashed with the Titans boss.

Reports emerged before the game that the Bulldogs had a headlock with Faasumalewi and Blues star Matt Burton at Origin III and there were fireworks at Combebank Stadium.

The incident in the 23rd minute saw Faasumaleui glaring at Waddell after the Bulldogs star grabbed his face and threw him to the ground.

Brenton Speed said on Fox League: “More complaints are a running war.”

“Is he accusing and blind? That’s why Ben Cummins says it’s hard.

“It’s Corey Waddell with his hand around his eyes.

“It’s not the headlock that Tino had on Burton in the beginning, more of a face massage.”

Cummins put Waddell on the report and penalized the Bulldogs for the incident, but didn’t use the sin bin or send-off.

Steve Roach didn’t think Waddell’s actions were particularly eye-catching, but admitted players risked attacking opposing players’ faces and eyes.

“I don’t think he was out there trying to see him,” Roach said.

“He didn’t dig his finger in there.

“But it’s a bad look. Trying to fight around the eye is not a good place to start.
