Dalma Cortadi, Cristian Tirone, attack, video

Argentine soccer referee Dalma Cortadi pleaded Monday for justice after he was punched in the back by a male player who disagreed with his on-field decision in a regional league game.

Cortadi, 30, has been charged with assault against 34-year-old Christian Tyrone, who was caught on the pitch after knocking out the referee after receiving a yellow card for a foul.

Cortadi was taken to the hospital and spent several hours under observation after the attack, which was captured on video.

The footage shows Tyrone punching Cortadi in the back of the head, missing and connecting with her neck. She falls to the ground, but immediately gets up as Tyrone is pulled by the others on the field.

“I fell and I don’t remember anything else. Dizziness and nausea when I get up. Nothing like this has ever happened to me,” she told Ole Sports Daily.

Cortadi was officiating a third-place match between Independencia and Garmense in the Tres Arroyos regional league, which was suspended after the attack.

She tells Ole that her gender has nothing to do with it.

We want justice to be done and this man to pay for what he did. That’s the main thing,” she said.

The league condemned the attack and Garmense banned Tyrone for life.
