The Dragons have confirmed George Burgess has been given “leave of absence” amid reports the veteran has entered a rehabilitation facility.
News Corporation Burgess has spent the last month in the facility for personal reasons and is nearing the end of the process, according to Tuesday. However, he is unlikely to play again this season.

The Dragons confirmed Burgess’s leave – and stressed he has nothing to do with the current criminal case – in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
The statement said: “St George Illawarra can confirm that George Burgess has recently been granted a leave of absence.”
“Burgess’ absence is of a personal nature and unrelated to the current criminal case.
“The dragons have no further comment.”

Burgess was charged in March with sexually touching another person without consent. The case is listed for hearing in February.
The 30-year-old recently overcame a hip injury that prematurely ended his spell in the Super League and joined the Dragons on a two-year deal.
Burgess played four NRL games and nine reserve games for the club this season. He was last seen at home in round 15 of the NSW Cup in June.
