Isaiah Papali’i backflip, Wests Tigers contract, transfer news, Billy Slater, rugby league legends, news, highlights

Rugby league legend Billy Slater has criticized Isaiah Papalien’s potential Tigers retreat after the 23-year-old said he would make a decision at the end of the season.

Reports suggest the defender will honor his contract and join the club in 2023, but doubts remain over Papali’s future.

The 23-year-old signed a three-year contract with the Tigers at the end of last year, but after Michael Maguire was sacked, the young gun said he had “no regrets”.

“Of course people ask me about it, on the street or my family and friends are beating me, but it’s kind of my manager to take care of me and I want to do it even if I don’t stay here or go next year. I am sure there will be no regrets this year,” he told 9 News.

“I was talking to Madge when I signed – he’s a great coach. I guess that shakes up the room a little bit and you have to have those conversations and I guess that’s a big factor for me.

Now, Slater is surprised that Papalii could push him to go back and honor the contract.
