But Melksham made an exception to his guernsey, yanking it out of the fans’ hands before throwing it on the ground near the goal line. As more players continued to race, Christian Petracca took out his guarantor and threw it further under the door.
Guernsey, with Jackson number six written on his back, has been linked with a high-profile switch to the Dockers for Melbourne ruckman Luke Jackson’s nod.
The action was picked up by onlookers and the backlash came flooding in for the Melbourne utility.
One fan wrote: “Jake Melksham grabbing the Frio Guernsey off a fan and throwing it on the ground is not amazing.
“A lovely walk from Melksham and Petracca,” added another.
“Grow up Melksham. It’s not hard to ignore the guaranty,” added another.
The Demons flew out of the blocks in the opening period, kicking the first three goals of the contest before the Dockers hit their first major.
A tight contest saw the Deuces go into their first break holding a 4.3 (27) to 2.2 (14) advantage.
