Justin Crawford death, Shane Crawford’s brother, Hawthorn Hawks, Sydney Swans

AFL legend Shane Crawford has been devastated after the death of his younger brother Justin.

Justin died suddenly at the age of 45, leaving the entire Crawford family heartbroken and grieving.

“We’re all sad,” Shane Crawford said.

“We are deeply saddened. He was a much loved brother and son.”

After being selected by the Swans ahead of the 1994 AFL draft, Justin played four seasons in the AFL, making a total of 46 appearances for the Swans and kicking a total of 32 goals for the Hawks.

In the year The midfielder made his AFL debut at 3 in 1995 as the Swans fell to the Brisbane Lions, making 11 appearances in his first competition.

He played a total of 10 games in his first season, earning a Rising Star nomination after a 2-goal loss against Fitzroy in Round 19.

Justin managed just seven games in Sydney’s second season before joining Shane at Hawthorn.

The brothers met for the first time since their junior year at Finley.

“Hawthorne asked me if I wanted to come – I said, ‘Yeah, I’d love to have them,'” Justin said at the time.

After two seasons with the Hawks, Justin called time on his AFL career and retired from the game aged just 21.
