EELS last minute chase for Tapau
They are eels.I’m excitedManly have lured veteran Martin Taupau to the club for the rest of the season – but time is running out.
It was revealed last week that Taupau, who is out of contract at the end of the season, has requested an immediate release to join the Eels.
Els coach Brad Arthur confirmed the 32-year-old’s interest, saying: “It’s good for us…but it’s Manly’s call” after his side beat the Panthers.
And now, the club are finalizing a proposal for the stars, according to The Sydney Morning Herald, but have until 5pm on Monday to get the deal over the line.
According to The Herald, the Eels have been “calling hard” on Manley over the weekend to try to convince the club to let Taupo go, but have had no luck.
They will continue their pursuit Monday to secure the 217-player roster before the Aug. 1 deadline closes.

Titans will finally fill the shiny hole
ROSTER hurler Sam Verrills is reportedly set to sign with the Gold Coast Titans following the Tricolors’ acquisition of Brandon Smith.
Smith signed with the Roosters in December last year, which immediately brought Verrills’ future into focus.
Now, the 23-year-old heads north to join the Titans and fill a much-needed hole in the Gold Coast spine. Daily Telegraph.
Verrills has been strong in recent weeks and has inspired Trent Robinson’s side to three straight wins.
Before the 2022 season, Titans coach Justin Holbrook rolled the dice and deployed the smallest spine in the competition.
The club have let Jamal Fogarty walk, but have now signed Kieran Foran to fill the half-back gap and have now moved to lock down his regular start in the number 9 shirt.
First-choice scrum-half Erin Clark has switched to lock and has been impressive in the patches, opening up the scrum-half spot for Verrills to take over.
This comes after Holbrook admitted he was in the market for one half following the 19th round loss to the Titans.

Bulldogs add to the pack
Bulldogs supremo Phil Gould has reportedly lined up two new forwards – Franklin Peel and Andrew Devine.
Davie, a first-grade regular and Pele, who has one NRL game under his belt for the Sharks, will head to Belmore. Daily Telegraph.
Pele, 21, weighs more than 120kg and has a cult following at Cronulla feeder club Newton Jets.
According to reports, the Bulldogs are hoping to land a draft pick and potentially add minutes.
Meanwhile, 30-year-old Davey’s first class ended late and he is set to make the switch.
Davy in 1998 He made his NRL debut at Eels in 2020, becoming the fourth debutant in the game’s history at the age of 28.
After being traded to the Sea Eagles in 2021, Davey suffered a season-ending knee injury but was strong in 2022.
