Matteo Berrettini Covid-19, out of tournament, Marin Cilic, Alex de Minaur, draw, Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic

Last year’s Wimbledon runner-up and one of the race’s favorites, Matty Beretini, was forced to withdraw due to a positive CV-19 test.

Brettini, who lost to Novak Djokovic in last year’s final, had eight contests this year, but he or Rafael Nadal are likely to be ruled out.

That was until former US Open champion Marine Silicon was eliminated from the 2022 tournament.

I was heartbroken when I announced that I had to leave Wimbledon because of the positive results of the CV-19 test.

“I’ve had flu symptoms and I’ve identified the last few days. Although the symptoms were not severe, I decided that another test was needed this morning to protect the health and safety of my competitors and all others involved.

“I have no words to express my deepest feelings of despair. The dream is over for this year, but I will return strongly. Thank you for your support. ”

Barrettini was replaced by the defeated Elias Yimer.

His farewell means Australia’s Alex de Minaur has an easy way to reach the quarterfinals.

Diego Schwartzman – the man of choice for the clay courts – is now the only person in his class who is superior to him.

It could clear the way for Nick Kyrgyz, and he still needs to pass Stephen Tsitsipas in the third round, otherwise he will have a few setbacks before half-time – with Rafael Nadal hovering.
