The NRL has been shamed for its explanation of why Hurricanes star Nelson Asofa Solomon escaped sanction for cracking Wayde Egan’s teeth with his elbow.
Asofa Salomona was not even charged by the match review committee, although he was reported and given an on-field penalty after elbowing Egan in the forehead and causing him to fall to the ground.
“There were a lot of controversial incidents with Nelson Asofa-Solomona over the weekend,” Bright Anasta said on NRL 360.

“I’ve seen the head clash (Dale Finucane against Stephen Crichton) get two weeks last week and I’ve seen this and he’s got nothing.”
Paul Kent has hit out at the NRL’s poor explanation, challenging all three comments surrounding Asofa-Solomona’s actions.
“Let me just mention a few things,” Kent said.
“There is a divide there,” they said. Now if I punch you in the face, there is some separation between the punch and your face before it gets there, but eventually there is contact. It’s the first thing.
“Secondly, there was insufficient power to prosecute. He gritted his teeth. Two teeth. So there is not enough power to prosecute?

“Thirdly, contact can be made with the neck and chin area. Again, he cracked his teeth.
“They don’t understand what kind of head communication part there is. If you have a chipped tooth from a stuck tooth, how can you say there is not enough power and contact with the neck or chin area?
Paul Crowley has labeled Luke Patten and Graham Annesley’s explanation as the dumbest thing ever to emerge from NRL HQ.
“That’s the stupidest explanation I’ve ever heard coming out of Luke Patten in the NRL,” Crowley said.

“For Graham Annesley, a bloke who has been in the game for a long time has to stand there and let it be said and expect everyone to drink it up.
“Seriously, it’s a shame. They have to do better.
“This was a shocking speech. Jared Warea-Hargreaves was fined $3000 for his altercation with Zach Fulton. It wasn’t that bad.
“This will come out. This won’t even get a penalty. This won’t get anything.
“And this is on the back of Asofa-Solomona where there were two separate charges last week. Two penalties. Another in round 18 a week ago. Another in the past.
“That’s four penalties this year and that’s not going to get anything.”
