Nick Hind ignores Essendon coach Ben Rutten, video, what happened, disrespect, will Rutten be sacked

Essendon defender Nick Hinds was seen blanking shooting coach Ben Root midway through the game, adding the suggestion the players had “checked it”.

Port Adelaide champion Ken Corns, who showed a clip of the Bombers’ win over North Melbourne two weeks ago, said Hind was returned to the bench in the fourth quarter and appeared to disrespect his coach.

Hind gave away a free kick for protesting and the Kangaroos were frustrated when the goal went off the ground.

In the clip, he tries to find a seat on the bench where he doesn’t have to sit next to the coach, as she motions for Ruth to sit next to him and Hinds does.

He looks away, completely ignoring Rutten as the coach tries to get his attention.

Seconds later, Hind was seen again looking in the opposite direction as she gave Ruth directions.

He will be joined by Rutton, who appears to be on the brink of leaving the club to land Alastair Clarkson at Essendon before new president Dave Barham commits to North Melbourne.

“You ask the players if they’ve checked it – it’s round 20. I’m not sure I’ve ever seen a player look at a manager like that,” Cornes said on Nine Footy Classifieds.

“Ben doesn’t want to sit next to Ruth, she says Ruth won’t sit here.

“He’s trying to give him some feedback, some positive encouragement and Nick Hind coming down here on the bench – he can’t even see him here.

“The players have clearly seen it and their actions on the pitch are showing that.”

Veteran journalist Caroline Wilson called the vision “very unusual”.
