Porto president says he will only sell Vitinha if release clause met amid Man Utd and Arsenal intere

Arsenal and Manchester United target Vitinha will only be sold when the deal is finalized, says Porto president Pinto da Costa.

Michael Arteta’s side have been linked with a move for Leicester City midfielder Yuri Tilemens in recent weeks.

But as Arteta looks to bolster his midfield, Porto star Vitinha has emerged as an alternative.

According to reports in Portugal, Arsenal are the only club willing to pay 35 35million for the Portuguese international.

United interested

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Da Costa said Porto had received an unsatisfactory offer from Vitinha, which would be released only when the release clause was met.

“What we did not receive from Vitinha was a significant, significant discount,” he said.

“And we sent our players to the release clause, which is the only way to take them.”

Arteta is also looking for a striker, with Gabriel Jesus and Victor Osimhein linked to the Emirates Stadium.

That happened after Arsenal lost Alexandre Lacazette to Lyon and Pierre-Emerick Obama in Barcelona in January, and Eddie Nkuthia has yet to agree a new contract.

Who managed to capture Arteta?

The 22-year-old has made 30 appearances in the Portuguese Premier League this season, beating second-placed Porto (1,680) and third (42).
