Cristiano Ronaldo could be in Manchester United’s starting line-up despite his pre-season absence, with Everton facing a major setback after a sudden injury ruled out their star striker for six weeks.

Plus, Leicester right-back Ricardo Pereira has suffered a devastating injury blow after announcing he will be out for six months following Achilles surgery.

Manager Brendan Rodgers said: “Unfortunately, Ricardo Pereira will be out for up to six months with a ruptured Achilles. A lot of our game thinking was about our full backs and him in particular. He looks great.

“It’s a big blow for him.”

The group will also include Harvey Barnes and others They sold Ryan Bertrand (both knee injuries) as well as keeper Kasper Schmeichel to Nice – who have yet to sign a single player this transfer window.

And Liverpool faced a dark injury cloud.

Jurgen Klopp has said centre-back Ibrahima Konate will be sidelined “for a while” after picking up a knee injury in last week’s final touchline. Liverpool’s Kostas Tsimikas, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Diogo Jota, Curtis Jones and reserve keeper Caoimhin Kelleher are also injured, while midfielder Naby Keita returned to training yesterday after a week out with illness.
