Premier League 2022, Manchester United vs Liverpool live updates, score, result, news, start time in Australia

Manchester United manager Erik ten Haag has called for a response to his players’ attitude during last weekend’s embarrassing 4-0 defeat at Brentford, calling for a response against Liverpool on Monday (UK time). Live from 5am AEST!

The Dutchman’s first defeat in over 100 years has left the Red Devils bottom of the Premier League for the first time in 30 years, making them the worst start of any new manager in over 100 years.

Brentford’s players covered 13.8km to win at the Bees and the Ten Hags are said to have responded by canceling a planned day off to allow their team to run that distance the day after last Saturday’s defeat.

“I was definitely not happy,” Ten Hag said at the pre-match press conference on Friday. “The fundamentals have to be good and that has to start with the right attitude.

“You need fighting spirit on the pitch and I didn’t see that a minute ago. “The players didn’t play well, they made a lot of mistakes. There is no need to talk about anything (tactical) if the attitude is not correct.

United’s pursuit of Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong looks set to end in failure following a dismal start to the season at home following a disappointing summer in the transfer market.

However, the English giants look set to land another midfielder in Real Madrid’s Casemiro, who could rise to 70 million euros (£51 million, $61 million) from La Liga.

Ten Haag refused to comment on the Brazil international’s arrival, but backed the club’s owners, the Glazer family.

Demonstrations are planned outside Old Trafford ahead of Liverpool’s game, pointing the finger at the American fans after famous former manager Alex Ferguson retired for a decade.

“I can tell the owners want to win,” Ten Haag added. “We want the fans behind the club.

“Sometimes I can understand, but I have not been in the club for a long time, I can see all the backgrounds, but we have to fight together, so we have to be united and fight together.”

Even if Casemiro signs before Monday, he will not be registered in time to make his debut.

Anthony Martial is fit to return, with Ten Haag facing another big call on whether to start Cristiano Ronaldo.

The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has featured in United’s opening two games of the season, but still appears to be trying to co-ordinate a move away from Old Trafford before the transfer window closes.
