Napoli will play United’s bitter rivals Liverpool, Rangers and Dutch champions Ajax in this year’s Champions League.

Ronaldo is desperate to play in Europe’s top competition, and despite scoring 18 goals in the Premier League, the Red Devils finished a dismal 6th place in the Premier League and are only competing in the second-placed Europa League.

Rejected by top clubs across Europe, Ronaldo’s famous agent Jorge Mendes has been linked with Napoli (via Sky Italia) with a view to a swap deal for Napoli’s Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen as the transfer window approaches.

Osimhen attracted interest from Premier League powers including United, Chelsea and Arsenal before they recently signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City.

The 23-year-old signed for Napoli from Lille in 2020 and has scored 26 goals in 53 appearances.

Napoli will demand a higher fee in addition to the swap deal, according to Sky Italia.

Osimhene’s agent, Roberto Calenda, said: “There are no negotiations or settlement negotiations in progress.

“Osimhen is a Napoli player and he wants to play in the Champions League with Napoli, he is proud to be in the UCL.”

When the player spoke, United again refused

Manchester United’s new €90m ($130m) bid for Ajax striker Anthony has been rejected by Ajax. But the 22-year-old Brazilian winger, who has scored twice in nine internationals in an explosive move, has been asked by the media to agree a move to Old Trafford.

Anthony has revealed to transfer master Fabrizio Romano that he requested a transfer through his agents in February at the end of his first season.

In June, he privately told the club that he had decided to leave for a new manager and board.

He added: “I was very happy in Amsterdam, I won titles with Ajax, made friends and built part of my career, but now I am ready and fully motivated to follow my story and my dreams.”

“I’m not asking Ajax to let me go, I’m asking Ajax to sell me the highest bid for an Eredivisie player. I have been insisting on this theme since February so that the club can build the squad with peace of mind.

Klopp admitted the mistake of signing

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has finally admitted what everyone already knows: the injury-ravaged Reds need midfield reinforcements.

The club lost Naby Keita to injury, and less than half an hour after making his first game of the season, they lost star striker Thiago Alcantara. Fabinho came on from the substitutes’ bench for just half an hour in the humiliating defeat against Manchester United, with 36-year-old midfielder James Milner starting alongside 19-year-old Harvey Elliott.

Klopp has changed his tune after repeatedly insisting the club desperately wanted no expensive transfer bill.

“Yeah, I’m the one who said we don’t need a midfielder, and you were right and I was wrong. Now we go to the midfielder.

“We will do something, but it has to be the right one.”
