NRL broke the silence after Benji Marshall joined West Leopard in an “unprecedented” coaching deal.
Before taking over as head coach in 2025, Marshall signed a five-year contract under Tim Shinnes.
The Tigers have not played in the final since 2011, but Marshall has revealed that he could make a difference with Shaines, who was sacked by the club in 2012.

“It’s very exciting. I love this club. To get this opportunity, I dreamed of going to someone like Tim Shins for two years and then taking over as head coach, ”Marshall told NRL 360.
“It came sooner than I expected, but you know, I took this opportunity to do a good job.
“So I’m really looking forward to it and I’m looking forward to the test.”
Shays and Marshall were the driving force behind the Tigers in 2005 as a player and coach.
Robbie Farah’s other big club has been selected as an assistant under Shaines for the next two years.
NRL 360 host Paul Kent described the deal as “unprecedented” and asked Marshall to reverse the criticism.
Marshall said, “Paul, you can say that, but as Tim Shins’ head coach, we were here in 2003 when he took over.
“It was very similar, we had a lot of trouble at the bottom of the table, we had all these kids who were influential and we won the competition in 2005.
“There is no doubt that we are struggling to attract players as a club right now.”
Marshall retired from the NRL last year and has no coaching experience but believes he is qualified for the job.

“I’ve been part of this coaching system with a lot of good kids and we’ve had success there so we have to bring those kids and I think Tim is the best person to do that,” he said. .
“I have no coaching experience, I feel like I have done more coaching than I have in the last five years. I don’t see what this assistant coach is doing, but I can see the inside and out.
“I know how to plan an attack structure, I know what it takes to be successful in an attack and that’s what my job will be.”
Marshall has spent most of his 346-game NRL career with the Tigers, and current director of football Shins has won 128 of the club’s 249 games from 2003 to 2012.
“Tim is supporting us as the right person to change that and if we are under him we can help that and that’s it,” he said.
