“South Africa is the new leader with 71.43% of the vote, while Australia has dropped to second place with 70% of the first test,” said the International Cricket Council.

“Sri Lanka is now in contention for next year’s World Cup final, which has helped them to jump ahead of Pakistan, India and the West Indies.”

Sri Lankan Spinner Prabat Jaasuri was playing for the first time in a dream, pulling 12 wickets and the undefeated batsman Danish Chandemal 206 – his two-ton attempt.

Cummins described the defeat as “proof of fact” but the team that won the opening game in three days finished on the fourth day of the second match.

“The fact is that some of our players have never been here before. So you can call it a reality test, because this is the first experience, ”said Australian coach Andrew McDonald in agreement with the coach.

“It’s the size of a sample. We have a chance to learn from this. And we take that. But we also learned a lot from the first game.

“You can learn by winning and you can learn by defeat.”

Australia’s next test match will be against West Indies in November, with Sri Lanka hosting Pakistan on Saturday.

Ken Williamson beat Southampton India in New Zealand last year to win the first test.
