Yasir Shah bowls Shane Warne ball of the century candidate, Gatting ball

Yasir Shah’s delivery was drawing comparisons with Shane Warne’s “ball of the century” on Tuesday, a day after Pakistan leg-spinner Kusal Maddis tore it apart.

On Sri Lanka’s Mendis 76 on the third day in Galle, Yasir planted an outside leg stump to start a big turn and hit the top of the stumps of the shell-shocked batsman.

His dismissal echoed the late great Warne’s magical approach to dismissing England batsman Mike Gatting in the first Ashes Test at Old Trafford in 1993.

The International Cricket Council wrote that “while it is difficult to surpass Warne’s impressive delivery, Yasir certainly comes close to delivering an offering that will be talked about for years to come.”

Sri Lanka Cricket tweeted: “Ball of the century candidate? Yasir Shah Kusal impressed Madis with a stunning delivery which reminded the audience of Shane Warne’s ‘Ball of the Century’.

Warne, who died in March of a suspected heart attack aged 52, completed his stellar Test career in 2007 with 708 Test wickets.
